Illinois Requirements
What do I need to bring to a firearm appointment?
You must bring a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card and a government-issued photo ID (such as an Illinois driver's license or state ID). Both must be current and valid.
Is there a waiting period in Illinois?
Yes. Illinois law requires a 72-hour waiting period for handguns and a 24-hour waiting period for long guns. The waiting period begins at the time of purchase. All applicable background check requirements also apply.
Do I need a FOID card to buy ammunition?
Yes. Under Illinois law, a valid FOID card is required to purchase ammunition.
